Research Assistant - Global Health Data Analysis

The Center for Global Development (CGD), an independent, non-partisan research organization based in Washington, DC and London seeks a Research Assistant to provide high quality research support and data analysis to the Global Health Policy Program. The Research Assistant will contribute to the Global Health Policy team’s work through a mixture of research, data analysis, writing, and organizational activities.

The successful candidate will have experience with research in global health, development economics, public policy, or a related field. Candidates must demonstrate strong quantitative, analytical, and communication skills. This position would suit a recent graduate looking to gain experience in a global development think tank.

The research assistant will perform a range of project research, policy analysis and other duties including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Conduct data analysis using Stata, R, Excel, and other software tools, and prepare tables and graphs to convey those results. Potential broad areas of focus include value for money and effectiveness in global health, priority-setting, antimicrobial resistance, and evidence-based policymaking, among other topics.
  • Analyze and translate data into insightful visualizations for CGD publications and presentations.
  • Communicate data insights with clear write-ups, summaries, and blog posts.
  • Conduct data gathering and literature searches for ongoing research projects.
  • Collaborate with senior staff and other CGD colleagues to draft blog posts, policy briefs, notes, and reports.
  • In collaboration with the CGD communications team, organize internal and external meetings, roundtables, and events related to research priorities.
  • Work with the institutional advancement team to report on grant deliverables and activities, and prepare grant proposals related to research work.
  • Perform other duties as necessary in support of senior staff.

The successful candidate will have the following qualifications and skills:

  • Undergraduate degree in a related field required.
  • Essential software skills: Stata and/or R for data analysis and visualization. Familiarity with Python, Power BI, or Tableau is a plus but not required. Please clearly specify relevant experience and software skills in your application.
  • Some training in econometrics and/or statistics is required. Again, please specify relevant experience in your application.
  • Expertise in data gathering, able to find, extract, assess, and organize information from multiple sources, effectively for comprehensive analysis.
  • One to two years of professional experience in international development or related areas of research or policy analysis is preferred but not required.
  • Familiarity and interest in global health, a plus.
  • Outstanding communications and writing skills in English.
  • Ability to advance projects with hands-off supervision. Comfort working independently, with small groups, and with senior staff. Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously, in a fast-paced environment.

 

Starting salary is $52,250.

The organization is working hybrid with all staff required to be in the office two days per week. CGD is registered to employ staff living in DC, Maryland, Virginia. Candidates must be able to live and work in one of these locations to be considered.
