Senior Policy Analyst, Global Lead Poisoning (Washington, D.C. or London)

The Center for Global Development, an independent, non-partisan research organization in Washington, DC and London, UK seeks a Senior Policy Analyst to support its cross-programmatic work on global lead poisoning. The position can be based either in Washington, D.C., or London, United Kingdom.

The successful candidate will be familiar with global lead poisoning, or at minimum passionate about the topic and eager/quick to learn. The candidate may come from a range of backgrounds, but should demonstrate outstanding writing, presentation, organizational, and managerial skills, and a track record of success producing highest-quality work and building relationships with high-level stakeholders in a professional context. Experience working more generally on issues related to global health, international development, environment, and education—and with funders and organizations working in these fields—is strongly preferred.

This is a one-year fixed term position. It may be extended, depending on funding and success in the position.

The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of duties:   

• Support CGD’s policy outreach and communication to advance evidence-based action against global lead poisoning by funders, governments, and international organizations. Activities to support this work, to be undertaken with a high degree of autonomy, will include:
  • Organizing briefings and events;
• • Preparing and delivering talking points, briefings, presentations, and other communications materials;
• • Corresponding with partners and reaching out to new audiences; and
• • Helping develop and implement policy outreach and communications strategies.
• Conduct research and policy analysis suitable on lead poisoning for publication on CGD’s website; author blog posts, policy papers, op-eds, notes, and briefs, alone or in collaboration with other senior colleagues. 
• Build and maintain relationships with others working in the global lead poisoning space, including academic experts, government officials, NGOs, funders.
• Represent the organization at a high-level in various settings and forums, including up to 30% travel.
• Manage budgets and track expenses.
• Support grant applications and reporting, as needed.
• Support program administration as needed (about 20% of total time).

Qualifications and skills 

• Master’s degree, ideally in economics, education, public health, international development, or a related field. 
• Minimum five to eight years of substantial research, policy, or other applicable experience, preferably in think tanks, NGOs, government, philanthropies, or a related sector.
• Outstanding attention to detail; proven ability to advance written materials and research with a high degree of autonomy while being accountable for the accuracy of outputs.   
• Excellent communication and writing skills in English, including the ability to communicate complex messages to a wide audience. 
• Excellent presentation and interpersonal skills; proven ability and experience interacting with high-level stakeholders and in high-profile public fora.
• Ability to read, understand, evaluate, and synthesize academic research across disciplines, basic statistical literacy.

• Must be eligible to work in the U.S. or United Kingdom.

Salary Range: £56,500 - £62,500 per annum dependent on experience

The organization is working hybrid with staff required to be in the office a minimum of two days per week. It is the expectation that the successful candidate will be within commutable distance to the offices based in SW1. 

Candidates should have the right to live and work in the UK. CGDE is unable to sponsor work authorization for this position. 

US Candidates:

Salary Range: $ 78,850 - $80,000 per annum depending on experience

The organization is working hybrid with all staff required to be in the office two days per week. CGD is registered to employ staff living in DC, Maryland, and Virginia. Candidates must be able to live and work in one of these locations to be considered.
