Senior Manager/Supervisor

The Center for Global Development, an independent, nonpartisan think tank in Washington, DC and with a CGD Europe office in London, seeks a Finance Controller to oversee financial operations of the organization including financial planning, analysis, budgeting, reporting and expense management. 

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer/Vice President of Administration, this is an excellent opportunity for an experienced, proactive, detail-oriented individual to have a significant impact on CGD’s operations and mission in the field of international economic development. 

Responsibilities include:
Fiscal Management
•    Work with the CFO/VP of Administration, other senior management, and program staff to develop, oversee, and manage annual organizational budget of over $20 million.
•    Conduct and oversee the day-to-day, month-end, and year-end financial and accounting activities.
•    Create and manage processes to develop financial forecasts, monitor budgets and program funds, and reconcile accounts.
•    Produce financial reports for senior management and Board of Directors.
•    Develop proactive solutions and bring new ideas to improve organizational performance and governance. 
•    Manage accounts payable systems, including expense reimbursements processes using Bill.com, Expensify, and Sage Intacct. 
•    Oversee the full functionality of applications and systems related to all financial processes, including Intacct, Bill.com, Expensify, American Express @ Work, 1099.com, and more. 
•    Develop controls to ensure that policies are effectively and accurately implemented and in compliance with IRS and other federal, state, and local requirements regulations.
•    Handle financial audit preparation and field work; annual Form 990 preparation, and ERISA audit (with Director of People Operations), and other financial regulatory and compliance requirements. Process year-end consultant 1099 forms and oversee the organizations local tax accounts related to real estate, licensing, registration and more. 
•    Oversee compliance with CGD’s internal financial policies, ensuring they are updated to capture new regulations and internal processes; conduct internal training to ensure staff are educated on and prepared to comply with financial policies. 
•    Develop and support relationships with outside fiscal experts (accounting firm, auditor, bank, and investment professionals)

Grants/Contracts Management 
•    Establish and monitor systems and procedures to manage all contract and grant requirements.
•    Develop and maintain financial dashboards in Sage Intacct to aid Program Directors in the financial management of their funding portfolio. 
•    Consult with Program Directors and project staff to produce financial reports as requested by funders and ensure timely compliance with reporting and invoicing requirements. 
•    Ensure grant proposals meet appropriate financial standards. 
•    Performs other duties, as assigned. 

Qualifications:
•    Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field required, CPA and/or graduate degree preferred.
•    5 - 7 years of collective experience in Finance, Accounting, at a grant-funded nonprofit. 
•    Thorough understanding of nonprofit accounting and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
•    Experience in creating, analyzing, and presenting financial reports using Excel and PowerPoint. 
•    Demonstrated ability to analyze numbers; must be detail oriented with excellent organizational and interpersonal skills; ability to work both autonomously and collaboratively. 
•    Adept at presenting complex financial information clearly to various audiences including senior management, staff members and others. 
•    Experience working with and integrating various financial systems and software programs: Sage Intacct (required), Bill.com (preferred), Expensify (preferred), and Salesforce (preferred). 
•    Technical aptitude to liaise between implementation partners, external helpdesk support teams, CFO, and staff end users will be critical to success in the role. 
•    To be considered, candidates must be able to demonstrate a very high level of proficiency with Excel, including using data from multiple sources to create compelling graphics, charts, and other data visualizations. 
•    Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines and objectives. 
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate diplomatically in a diverse, multi-cultural environment.

The salary for this position is $150,000.

Due to the pandemic our organization is working hybrid with all staff required to be in the office two days per week. CGD is registered to employ staff living in DC, Maryland, or Virginia. Candidates who cannot relocate to the area, even while the office remains closed, cannot be considered at this time.
