DEI and Recruitment Associate

The Center for Global Development (CGD), an independent, non-partisan research organization in Washington, DC is seeking a thoughtful, highly productive, and experienced professional to help drive forward our important work on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI), with a special emphasis on partnering with hiring teams on recruiting efforts. The DEI and Recruitment Associate plays a central role in CGD’s ongoing DEI initiatives as serves as a creative force for new opportunities to expand our talent pipeline, diversify external partnerships with universities, and turn the DEI lens inward at our own policies and practices. The Associate serves as the co-chair of the DEI Committee and leads planning, recruiting, and management of CGD’s Summer Delegates internship program in Washington, DC. The DEI and Recruitment Associate leads all recruitment efforts, partnering internally with hiring teams to plan and carry out the recruitment process, brining an equity focus to all our actions. The incumbent will perform a range of planning, design, support, and implementation functions to ensure the success of CGD’s DEI efforts, such as planning professional development sessions, facilitating staff training, and other activities to build a learning and growth culture. Additionally, the successful candidate will support the VP of HR in other aspects of DEI and recruiting strategy including outreach, partnering internally with different functional teams, and reviewing/refining processes for efficiency and greater equity. The incumbent must be able to exercise discretion, good judgment, and significant initiative, while operating at times with minimal supervision.

General Responsibilities:

  • Plan and manage CGD’s annual Summer Delegates Program, ensuring schedule of activities is thoughtful, robust, and engaging.
  • Co-chair the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) Committee, planning discussion topics, leading group meetings, and building/sharing resources on a variety of DEI issues and topics.
  • Take ownership of recruitment-related activities including drafting and editing job descriptions, posting jobs, candidate screening, scheduling interviews, gathering and synthesizing candidate feedback, ensuring a streamlined hiring process for all open positions while reducing time-to-fill.
  • Partner with hiring teams to support recruitments across the organization in a business partner model.
  • As a member of the operations team, participate in team meetings and discussions and contribute to the overall operations team efforts which includes People, IT, Administration, and Finance.
  • Be an internal voice and change agent for diversity and inclusion, suggesting new areas of work related to CGD’s DEI efforts. The ideal candidate will be a relationship builder, able to strengthen internal partnerships with other committee members, teams, and stakeholders - all to drive an ambitious agenda of DEI work while being accountable for outcomes.
  • Have visibility across the organization to identify trends and work with program teams to ensure projects and activities align with CGD’s DEI agenda and goals.
  • Lead preparation of DEI-related statistical data and qualitative information for reporting, decision making, and transparency. Work with communications team to publish data as needed.
  • Support the engagement of university partners and expand CGD’s network and reach.

Qualifications:

  • Deep interest in and familiarity with current/emerging diversity, equity, and inclusion topics and issues
  • Mid-career level expertise in managing recruitment, including implementing policies and processes, deploying tools/technology, and improving approaches
  • High level of emotional intelligence, empathy, and humility
  • Familiarity with internship programs, university outreach, and campus recruiting
  • Excellent communication, organization and writing skills
  • Strong initiative; can carry projects forward without close supervision
  • Ability to collaborate, build relationships, advocate for a position, and work closely with other teams to foster consensus through a (sometimes slow) participatory process
  • Intrinsically motivated to stay productive, focused, and see things to completion
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field plus 3 or more years of experience in recruiting and/or DEI issues. Nonprofit experience a plus.
  • Experience with JazzHR or similar ATS highly preferred. Sharepoint experience a plus.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic our organization continues to work remotely. CGD has implemented a fully virtual onboarding process, and candidates should be comfortable working productively in a remote environment. Flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities and tasks will be key. CGD is registered to employ staff living in DC, Maryland, or Virginia. Candidates who cannot relocate to the area, even while the office remains closed, cannot be considered at this time.
